I believe that insight matters—the ‘roots’ of negative relationship patterns, emotional barriers, or behaviors that don’t serve us are often found in early life experiences as a child/teenager. These experiences give us both our strengths and our vulnerabilities
I’ve been a licensed therapist for 29 years, and I know it can be helpful to understand how our past influences our present. We often get this insight from traditional ‘talk’ therapy.
Here’s the catch: we can have the best insight in the world, but without actually doing things differently, that insight is meaningless.
I enjoy working with people to help them gain insight and using that knowledge to then make active changes in their lives.
When we’re trying to work something out, it can also be helpful to understand our current life cycle as a backdrop. We’re in different stages of growth throughout our entire lives. Think about launching into life as a young adult, partnering up (or not), becoming a parent (or not), watching our parents grow older, our own aging process and mortality, etc. These are examples of life cycles we all must face – where are you currently?
When we struggle or feel out of sync with a particular life stage, we need to know what’s keeping us stuck.
I can’t tell you what to do with your life, who you are, or who you should be, but I’ll offer you a space to think and talk about these things.
I additionally offer grief therapy for loss of a pet. I appreciate how powerful human-animal connections can be. An animal companion you share a bond with isn’t “just a pet.” Grief over a beloved animal - due to death, rehoming, or surrendering – can have an impact on a person.
I have specialty training with ages 8-18 years old through my Fellowship at the Yale Child Study Center.
